Architectural, fundamental, primitive, the Min Chair stands strong, a baseline design in pine. Distinctive in profile, subtly subversive, and characterised by a repeated diagonal angle, the Min Chair is a brand-new seating standard by Max Lamb.
The chair’s design is a lesson in the economy of material and means. Invented as a self-build product by Lamb, the form is made from little material and minimum cuts. A single pine post is sliced at a diagonal angle to create the greatest surface area for two legs. Another post, similarly cut, produces both back legs and back rest. A third post, again cut on the diagonal, yields the seat. The result is a chair with maximum character made from minimal material, a clever design greater than its modest parts. The principle of the chair remained whilst its shape evolved over several years, executed in different materials and scales and eventually becoming a familiar Max Lamb motif. The Min Chair for Hem is the newest iteration of the form, carefully rationalised for mass production. Made from high grade pine that will steadily acquire a rich colour with age, the chair is purposefully solid, intended for everyday use. Min is peak seating style. Premium chairness. An archetypal, multifunctional seat from one of contemporary design's most coveted names.
